  • Why is McCain getting rid of Social Security, Medicare and college financial aid?

Posted by admin on November 21st, 2009 and filed under college financial aid | 34 Comments »

Is he doing so to fund the war, which he has pledged to prolong for 100 years, or is it to increase corporate welfare?

    Firstly – I Luv the Eagle – very cool….

2nd’ly – Don’t worry the baby boomers will see it through… Mc Cain is a little over the hill. No worries.

3rd’ly – Soar on through the clouds majestic bird…. :)

I didn’t know he was doing that, but none of it matters anyway because this country is in trouble economically. If that is his plan then that means he is not right for our country. Why do we need another republican in office? Why can’t we just have a decent candidate that wants to make our country better? Obviously we don’t have a heck of a lot to choose from, but seriously, why John McCain?

Well Republicans in general are for lower taxes and smaller government and a non-welfare state. I don’t like McCain and won’t vote for him (I voted for Paul), but if you really want all of that we are going to need to increase our income tax to ~65%. Now do you still want a welfare state?

Coz rich people don’t make themselves rich by spending their own money on what they want. They have to take it from someone else…. They also don’t gain prestige all on their own. They have to please others who already have prestige. So it only follows he will promise ugly things if it will make more prestigious people happy to vote for him.

Your question is ridiculous. McCain has not said he’s going to do any of the things as stated in your question. I’m not a McCain fan but don’t try to make stuff up about the guy to further another political agenda.
I think you need to do some reading before you post questions in the future. If you were to actually read-up first you wouldn’t come off looking so out of touch with the issues.

Huh? Senator McCain from Arizona, who is running for president of the US does not have any such power to get rid of any such programs, nor does the current president. Congress has no such legislation pending to eliminate them, so what on earth kind of rumor are you trying to start here?

I can understand Social Security… but Medicare and financial aid? LOL. There is absolutely NO downside to supporting college students. How does this country expect to remain competitive without an educated workforce? In fact, they should increase financial aid resources! You have to be dirt poor to get anything worthwhile from the government.

Anyway, can I get a source on this? I’m having a hard time believing this is true.

Wow! Either link where you got that tripe or go away. Social Security is "getting rid" of itself, there won’t be any left by the time I will be able to collect. McCain is offering alternatives like investing the money. Medicare isn’t going anywhere, the dynamics might changed as it has come under scrutiny but if you had a brain you’d realize that as the baby boomer generation hits senior citizen age, then Medicade will start to empty as well. Finally, it’s not financial aid that’s the problem, it’s the loans that by in large are never paid back. McCain wants to curtail these loans which some people pay off well into their 40’s and 50’s. Grow up.

He’s not going to do that. Medicare and social security are by far the two most popular government programs, brought to you by those evil liberal democrats, and no politician, Republican or otherwise, would dare to eliminate those. But your general point is correct. It would be nice if McCain said specifically which government programs he is going to cut, since he talks so much about being a budget hawk while at the same time promising to keep Bush tax cuts and then some.

When people talk vaguely about reducing government spending, or freezing government spending, a lot of people, especially conservatives, jump up and cheer. But when you hear the specifics – we are going to cut school music programs, we are going to reduce funds for infrastructure and highway construction and levee maintenance, we are going to reduce funding for medical research, we are going to reduce funding for a GI education bill (which McCain actually voted to do!), we’re going to cut FEMA, we’re going to cut the deparment of agriculture, we’re going to cut the health and safety inspections boards, etc.

people do tend to get upset. So I challenge McCain and his supporters to be specific about what spending they are going to cut.
