  • Free College Grants – Learn Which Type Is The Easiest To Obtain

Posted by admin on March 1st, 2010 and filed under college grants and loans | No Comments »

There are several types of free college grants to obtain.  Federal, State and private.  For some, the criteria and qualifying process can be quite rigorous, and for others, fairly easy to obtain.

One of the easiest free college grants is the Merit Based Grant, and these are offered by the state in which you live.  However, be aware that most, but not all states, offer a Merit Grant.  To find out if your state does, you can either visit the FAFSA website, or check out the official website for your state.

Once you have found out that info, and assuming the answer is a positive one, you need to determine if you qualify.  And as the name of the grant suggests, your eligibility for this financial aid will depend upon your GPA.  But before you panic, you don’t need to have an off the chart GPA.  If you’ve managed to earn and maintain a GPA of around 3.0, you should be okay.

However, more than just your grade point average will come into play.  As with a Need Based Grant, your family’s level of income, and the amount of money they will be contributing to your education has a bearing on your eligibility as well.  So, while the Need Based Grant is based on income alone, the Merit Based is on both income and academic factors.

Does a Merit Based Grant need to be paid back?  No.  Unlike a student loan, grant money is given free and clear.

So, if you’ve managed to maintain decent grades while in high school, and you’re wondering how you or your family is going to pay for college, why not look into a one of these free college grants?  As stated earlier, they are available in most states.

But don’t delay!  Free college grants are first come first served.  Waiting could mean a lost opportunity for you.
