My parents refuse to send me to an art school, since they think it’s a waste for me. So, I’ve decided to send myself – but is it possible? And how? Can I really get that much money in loans?
I won’t be eligible for some things, as my father makes too much money. But, still… can I do it myself?
What art school are you applying to??? I was interested in going to Pratt or SVA in NYC and they are super expensive- but not 90,000! They are about 35,000 a year.
To be honest, it might be worth it for you to go to a community college and major in art or maybe to a state school?
(i live in new york and i went to FIT- it’s a great school and for in-state students (who live in NY for at least 1 year) it’s only 3,000 a semester! it might be worth it to live in NY for a year and just work full time to save money and then call yourself a new york state resident!)
There is noooooo way you can come up with that much money on your own in financial aid if your parents make a lot. But, art school is not impossible! There are great schools that are not that expensive.
(PS- to Rockland S: You are a close-minded, inconsiderate jerk. Art is NOT useless- who do you think designed the clothes you are wearing? the furniture that you sit on while you punch numbers all day long? the ads you see in magazines and on TV? the covers of all the books you read? the layout of all the websites you visit? News flash- designers (AKA ARTISTS) did all of that. Let’s see you survive without someone designing everything that you don’t have the talent or motivation to design yourself!!)

The financial aid officer at the school you want to go to will be the person most qualified to tell you what you will be able to do. You may end up only going half time so you can work also, but that’s better than nothing.

No you cannot. If your family makes more than 90k a year you can only get stafford loans. That means you can get around 4000 your first year and top out at 7000k a year for your junior and senior years.
91,000? So wait you think someone is stupid enough to give those kind of loans to someone with no income or credit history? hahahahahahaha oh wow this is why america is in trouble!
No there is no lender who would give u 90k in loans!

You can do it yourself only if you are no longer a dependent, and have not been one for 1 year. The reason is that the loan places go on last year’s tax return info. If your parents make much more than poverty wages and you are a dependent, you will only be able to get loans, not grants.

Oh my god…$91,000 for art school, now that’s excessive. Listen to this, what makes a school better than another? The students. Is there a way for you to look into a different school? I really think this school is charging this much because of the prestige it may have, but I don’t think you should rack up that much in loans in a field that isn’t that promising. If art is you passion go to a least expensive school, because school is what you make of it not what it makes of itself.
