NCAA And NFF Football ScholarshipsThe two main organizations that provide football scholarships in the US are the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). The NCAA has football sponsoring schools under three divisions. These three are known as Division I, Division II, and Division III. Division I is further subdivided into Division I A and Division I AA. The NCAA provides a total of 85 football scholarships under each Division I A football sponsoring school program. It offers a total of 63 football scholarships under each Division II AA football sponsoring school program. NCAA Division III football sponsoring schools have not been provided any football or athletic scholarships at all. They can only sponsor academic scholarships. A total of 117 NCAA Division I A colleges sponsor football scholarships. Further, a total of 124 NCAA Division I AA colleges sponsor football scholarships. Lastly, a total of 150 NCAA Division 2 colleges sponsor football scholarships. From the above information it can be deduced that NCAA provides a total of 23,157 football scholarships every year. The funds for the scholarship are drawn from the NCAA membership fees collected from all the members of each NCAA school. Individuals, who want to apply for football scholarships need to first contact an NCAA football coach via e-mail. The list of NCAA football coaches is available on the NCAA Web site. If the coach recommends their names to the NCAA Selection Committee, they will then become eligible to receive football scholarships. While contacting an NCAA football coach, these individuals need to provide comprehensive and truthful information about their football skills. They need to provide information about the tournaments they have already played in and the ones they are scheduled to participate in. They also need to furnish recommendations from their current football coaches and video footages of their football skills. Overestimating football skills does not help. The NCAA football coaches are too experienced to be swayed by it. Further, addressing a specific NCAA football coach by their name always helps. Non-NCAA members need to first become members of the NCAA before applying for the football scholarships. Unless you are an outstanding footballer, it will not be possible to bag a football scholarship. The other organization that sponsors football scholarships in the US is the national Football Foundation (NFF). It established its National Scholar-Athlete program in 1959 in respect of college football. The football scholarship honors college football players drawn from all levels of college football, including NCAA Division I-A, I-AA, II, III, and the NAIA, for their academic and civic leadership skills, besides their footballing skills. The NFF Fondation's National Scholar-Athlete Awards program comprises graduate fellowships awarded annually to selected college football players in their senior years. Such footballers must have demonstrated superior football performance, excellent academic success, and example-setting community leadership. A total of 15 football scholarships are given away annually by the NFF that can be used for postgraduate studies. Each award amount is $18,000. |
