  • Can my college take away my awarded grants for having too many scholarships?

Posted by admin on September 2nd, 2009 and filed under scholarships for college | 4 Comments »

Did I not earn those grants as well as the scholarships?

Yes, this is common if the sum of the grants and scholarships is more than the cost of tuition (and possibly housing). You don’t just get to keep the extra money from grants like you do loans; they were meant to help you pay for tuition. They can now go to someone else.

Yes, they can. While you did earn those grants and scholarships, it’s rather unreasonable for you to be making say $10,000 a semester. Most schools will limit how much money you can receive above the cost of tuition. If you are getting more than that amount, they will reduce your financial aid package. Does it suck? Yes, but it’s far better than actually paying for school.

Yes–if you receive funding from another source (like a private grant or scholarship) the university will reduce the amount they are willing to offer you.
