  • Weird wacky and strange scholarships

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under wacky scholarships | No Comments »

Is there anybody going to a weird college? Exactly what kind of a question is that, it’s one that comes from reading about incorrect names of scholarship and financial aid awards. Some people use politically incorrect terminology to label scholarships. You may read about or hear the terms wacky scholarships, weird scholarships or unusual scholarships all of which I’d prefer to refer to as non-popular scholarships. I think it is unfair to label a scholarship as weird or wacky simply because if you label the award, then essentially you are labeling it’s recipients.

    Weird Scholarship names

There is a new approach to labeling students who are learning disabled. That approach is called using “person first” language. Meaning you say the person first and then you say the disability. You don’t say for example “handicapped person”. Do you see where I am going with this? The same goes for scholarships you don’t say a scholarship for a strange person rather you say a an uncommon or a non popular scholarship but you don’t use terminology that is disparaging to the recipient.

Wacky scholarships have a bad rep

The problems with using these bad labels for scholarships is that not only are they disparaging or belitting but they are also discouraging. I wouldn’t want to apply for a scholarship that was labeled weird. I would think that the criteria would consist of me having a weird personality or characteristics. I would almost feel like an outcast. And I am sure many students looking for scholarships are taking the same approach. I mean I see it all the time websites claiming that there are a lot of weird and wacky scholarships going unclaimed. If this is true obviously it’s because people are discouraged and don’t feel that they should apply for these types of awards.

    Why are scholarships called strange?

Why do scholarships have to be referred to as strange? Actually they don’t, this is a false label that is used in advertisements. It can be really offensive to the majority of students who are looking for college scholarships. I can promise you when you use scholarship searches they don’t send you information that says “Apply here for this strange scholarship.”

As an educator I feel obligated to provide free scholarship information to those who want to further their education. I went to undergraduate and graduate school 100% free! Find out how. http://www.scholarshipsupport.com/

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2010 and filed under wacky scholarships | No Comments »

Everyone is aware of the soaring education cost. Students always try to get scholarships to pay for their education. When applying for scholarships there is always certain qualifying criterion. You need academic excellence or an athlete, parents working in military, or something else. Did you know that simply being left handed can get you a scholarship! Sounds weird! That is what wacky scholarships are!

Scholarships of all sorts are one option, usually requiring applicants to meet a specific set of criteria. The most common of these are a specific GPA, participation in athletics, being the child of active duty military personnel – the list goes on and on. There are also some wacky grants which have more unusual requirements.

They may sound strange to others and hence they are wacky scholarships. Quite a few of these less well known wacky scholarship end up going unclaimed every year since very few people are even aware of their existence.

Take a look at some of the common traits found in people which can get them scholarships. The most common ones are for the tall giants and the shorties. The Tall clubs International awards the scholarship of $1000. You need to be taller than 6′2″ if male and over 5′8″ if female.

Then for the shorties the Billy Barty Foundation and The Little People of America offers scholarships to students. IF you are less than 4′10″ then you do qualify.

Students who are on the heavy side also have specialized scholarships to apply for. Two merit-based scholarships are awarded each year by the NAAFA (National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance) to students who are members of this organization.

If this has boggled your mind, then you should know about these wacky scholarships. If you are a diehard star trek fan then you probably have collected the memoirs. All you need to do is just bring that. The Klingon Language institute offers $500 Kor memorial scholarship to one person simply to promote the language.

And you don’t need to know the Klingon language to win it. These are just a few common traits which we normally see in people.

There are many more wacky scholarships like e.g. a caddie, having red colored hair and something you have never imagined.

Wacky Scholarship $10,000 Drawing Wacky Scholarship $$$

Wacky Scholarship, If you have decided that going back to college is a great decision for you, then you need to find a way to fund your decision. This is typically done by locating the appropriate amount of college aid.

The problem is trying to find the funding that will get you through the next 2 to 4 years. Here are a few ways that you can find college aid fast so that you can start on your path toward a completed college degree.

One of the best sources for college aid is a scholarship. Scholarships are typically given by universities or private organizations that are interested in promoting certain individuals through a particular school or degree program because they have shown certain qualifications.

There are a few things you need to consider before randomly applying for every scholarship that comes your way. Here are a few tips on how you should prepare prior to filling out the application.

First, before you apply to any scholarship program, you need to read and understand what the requirements are for that scholarship. If you determine early on that you would not qualify, you will not waste hours if not days of your time filling out and sending in an application that in all likelihood would be rejected.

Second, once you have determined that you have eligibility for this program, you need to fill it out as thoroughly as possible. This means that for every question that is asked, it needs to be filled in. If you leave any blanks on an application, it will need to a guaranteed delay and you may miss deadlines that may be necessary to meet in order to qualify for that particular program. Third, while you are filling it out, make sure that you write very neatly. In our information age, more than likely most of the scholarship applications that you fill out will be online. Therefore, you will not have to worry about how legible your writing is. However, some private scholarships in local communities will ask you to fill out paperwork that is physical and needs to be turned in and reviewed by a human being. If it is not legible, it will more than likely be rejected.

Fourth, you are almost guaranteed to be asked to write an essay. Writing an essay will be very easy if the scholarship in the program you are applying for is directly related to your college interest. If you are going for a scholarship in biology, and you have a biology major in mind, you will have no problem writing a great essay. However, if you are going into chemistry, and you are applying for a scholarship in astronomy, not only will you have difficulty writing a good paper, but you will more than likely be rejected because it has nothing to do with the program you are applying for.

Finally, make sure that you keep track of all of your deadlines. In order to get enough money for school focusing only on these programs, you need to keep a file which lists all of them and the deadlines that you need to meet. A great idea is to save a file in Excel on your computer so that you can easily access it from your desktop to keep track of when each application is due.

Applying for scholarships is one way that you can avoid having tens of thousands of dollars in debt once you have left school. This is usually acquired by taking out multiple student loans to finish your college education. By taking the time now and working hard to get free money for college, you will save yourself years of agony in paying off loans for an education that you needed to have and that will benefit you in the years to come.
